Texas Mutual Insurance Co. has granted a $53,000 dividend to the City of Converse for maintaining a workers' compensation safety program.
A local insurance agent last week presented the check to city officials, part of TMI's safety rebate program, according to a local news report.
City Manager Le Ann Piatt said the city's safety committee and Assistant Fire Chief Ray Christian have taken an active role in reducing injuries.
“When we have a workers’ comp injury or an accident, the committee gets together and reviews what happened,” Piatt said at the July 2 City Council meeting. “They come back and say if it was employee negligence, or if there’s something we can change, something we need to do better. Thanks to (Ray Christian), because we have seen our workers’ comp accidents and accidents in general go down.”
“If you put a safety program together and you do certain things, there will be a reward at the end,” insurance agent Pat McMahan, of the Alamo Insurance Group, said.
