A Washington state claimant who ran his own insurance agency while collecting workers’ compensation benefits was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay restitution that the Department of Labor & Industries says amounts to more than $233,000.
The department said in a press release that James C. Kooy, 53, of Lake Stevens, pleaded guilty in September to a felony charge of first-degree theft in Snohomish County Superior Court. A restitution hearing is scheduled for March.
