An assessment on crude oil has allowed the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health to more than double its inspection staff for oil refineries and hazardous chemical plants.
The assessment was implemented through legislation passed after a fire broke out at Chevron's oil refinery in Richmond in 2012. According to a Monday press release from the Department of Industrial Relations, the assessment has allowed DOSH to increase the size of its Process Safety Management unit from 10 positions in 2012 to 26 positions this year.
