Small businesses will soon have a new source of direct workers’ compensation insurance, from a startup company that says it will use predictive analytics to arrive at rates that will often be lower than what employers are now paying. John Swigart Pie Insurance plans to start offering workers’ comp policies to small businesses in Illinois by about March of next year. The plan is to expand into 10 to 15 states by the end of 2018, and California is toward the top of the list, said John Swigart, the company’s chief executive officer.
