Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday signed into law Assembly Bill 528, which will require pharmacies to start reporting Schedule V prescriptions to California's Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System, or CURES.
CURES currently tracks only Schedule II through IV controlled substances. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Schedule V drugs contain limited quantities of certain narcotics. The DEA said some examples of Schedule V drugs are Robitussin AC, Lomotil, Motofen, Lyrica and Parepectolin.
