An upstate New York chiropractor faces a number of felony charges after he allegedly faked exams and reports that helped workers fraudulently collect workers' compensation benefits, state authorities said this week.
Eric Szatko, 47, who had a chiropractic office in Utica, was charged Wednesday with grand larceny, offering a false instrument, and workers' compensation fraud, the state inspector general announced.
Szatko allegedly ran a sham medical mill and wrote reports that allowed employees of the Central New York Psychiatric Center to obtain paid time off for bogus injuries, according to a news release.
One employee of the center claimed he was injured while he was actually kayaking in Puerto Rico and vacationing in California, the inspector general's office said. The worker has pleaded guilty in connection with the scheme.
Szatko was released on his own recognizance pending court appearance on Thursday.
