Gupta Named Chief Deputy Commissioner

Sumit Gupta, who has been deputy commissioner since 2014, has been named chief deputy commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, the commission announced this week.

Gupta has served in a number of roles at the commission, including general counsel and as interim chief deputy commissioner for two weeks in 2016.

He is a former prosecutor and was a partner in the Smithfield firm of Stewart, Schmidlin, Bullock & Gupta.
