The statewide average weekly wage in Florida has risen slightly, the Florida Division of Workers' Compensation announced this week.
Effective Jan. 1, the wage will climb from the current level of $917 to $939. Because Florida law provides that the maximum compensation rate for injured workers is 100% of the state average, the maximum weekly amount also will be $939, the division said.
The average weekly wage has climbed steadily since 1937, when the wage was $18, according to the Department of Financial Services. In 1990, the wage was $382, and in 2010, it was $772.
