Sedgwick CEO David North to Keynote Workers' Comp Conference

Editor’s Note: The 68th annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference will be held August 18-21 at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Presented by the Workers’ Compensation Institute, the WCEC is the largest gathering of its kind in the nation and offers  discipline-specific programs and break-out sessions from hundreds of national speakers, as well as CEU opportunities. All stakeholders in the workers' compensation community are represented at and welcome to participate in the conference. This article is part of a series highlighting some of the upcoming sessions.

David North, the president and CEO of Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., will be the industry keynote speaker at the 68th annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference this summer in Orlando.

Attendance at the August 18-21 event at the Orlando World Center Marriott is expected to top 8,000, drawing participants from across the nation and a number of foreign countries. Registration is now open.

In his keynote address, North will discuss the opportunities and challenges of today’s workers’ compensation market and how the political and economic climates are affecting the industry.

North is well-suited to the task. Under his leadership, Sedgwick has grown to become the largest third-party administrator in the industry. A frequent speaker at national and regional industry conferences, North has more than 32 years of experience in risk management services. He developed and taught the American Management Association course on Advanced Risk Management Strategies: Managing the Total Cost of Risk. In 2002, he was recognized by Business Insurance as one of the 35 “Rising Stars” in insurance worldwide. In 2003, he coauthored the book “The Art of Self-Insurance.” He has served on the board of the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute and is past chairman of the board of the Integrated Benefits Institute.

Now in its 68th year, the Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference is the must-attend event for C-level executives, risk managers, claims adjusters, insurers and medical and legal experts. Presented by the Workers’ Compensation Institute, the conference offers attendees an extraordinary opportunity to connect with their peers and learn from nationally recognized experts.

In addition to North’s keynote address, there are program tracks for employers, risk managers, brokers, adjusters, judges, lawyers, state administrators, safety professionals, nurses, doctors, representatives from the PEO and temporary employment industry, Medicare specialists, mediators, Social Security experts and Longshore specialists. Attendees can earn CEUs from numerous disciplines, and more than 300 exhibitors will be on hand to present information on their products and services.
