The Washington state Department of Labor & Industries will start processing applications for an acupuncture pilot project Tuesday.
The department will enroll workers in the two-year study of the efficacy of acupuncture for treating occupational injuries. Up to 150 acupuncturists will be able to participate in the study.
Acupuncture is not a covered service in Washington’s work comp system, but the department said its review of medical literature “concluded there is evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture for treating low back pain.”
