Insurers are decrying a bill in the Pennsylvania state legislature that would allow the state's workers’ compensation insurer of last resort to branch out and sell health insurance, and to borrow against its reserves to pay claims and administrative costs.
House Bill 2250 would allow the State Workers’ Insurance Fund and its board “to offer a quality, affordable health insurance policy” with no income requirements, prime sponsor Rep. Robert Freeman, D-Northampton County, wrote in a memorandum to other lawmakers.
