Officials in Luzerne County, Pa., are investigating 1999 workers' compensation payments made to former county Deputy Prison Warden Sam Hyder in connection with a running dispute over a recent claim that stress ultimately drove him from the job, the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reported Wednesday.The newspaper said county officials on Tuesday directed Luzerne County Controller Walter Griffith to review allegations that Hyder received twice the benefits he was entitled to based on a 1998 injury he sustained while protecting an inmate.
