L&I Starts Rulemaking to Revise Classification Standards

The Washington state Department of Labor and Industries started formal rulemaking to revise 13 industry classifications. The department said in a March 22 rulemaking notice the changes will not affect how it classifies workers, but should ensure the classification plan is clear and understandable. The proposal will not change how L&I calculates employer rates, reporting requirements or how it classifies businesses, the department said.
