PPG Faces $69,000 in Fines for Worker Fatality

The death of a worker entangled in an unprotected spindle winder has resulted in $69,000 in proposed fines against PPG Industries Inc. for serious and willful safety violations, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced.The fatal accident occurred last July at PPG’s Barberton facility, which employs 160 people. The agency said the citation for the willful violation involved PPG’s failure to ensure machine guarding was provided to protect the operator.
