First-Responder PTSD Law Takes Effect July 1

Legislation that will make post-traumatic stress disorder a compensable condition for Idaho first responders, even without a physical injury, will take effect on Monday. Senate Bill 1028, by Sen. Dan Johnson, R-Lewiston, will apply to claims filed by police, firefighters, emergency medical service providers and dispatchers. Before SB 1028, Idaho workers’ comp laws recognized PTSD claims only when there was an accompanying physical injury.
