The Washington state Department of Labor and Industries announced that rates will fall by 0.8% in 2020.
L&I has reduced rates for three consecutive years — 5% in 2019 and 2.5% in 2018 — as projected long-term costs for the workers’ compensation system have fallen more than $2.9 billion. The department attributes the falling costs to efforts to help injured workers heal and return to work, educating employers on how to keep their rates low and providing vocational support earlier in injury claims as all helping workers while reducing costs.
