North Carolina lawmakers on Monday may attempt to override Gov. Ray Cooper’s veto of legislation that would eliminate a law allowing newspapers to classify carriers as independent contractors instead of employees.
The legislature placed House Bill 205 by Allen McNeill, R-Asheboro, on call for a possible override vote on Monday.
Cooper, a Democrat, in July vetoed House Bill 205, which the Republican-dominated legislature had passed on June 28. Cooper said lawmakers had passed the bill to retaliate against newspapers that had been critical of them.
