CWCI Posts Formulary Webinar on Website

The California Workers’ Compensation Institute posted to its website an on-demand version of a webinar exploring proposed formulary regulations that are scheduled to take effect Jan. 1.

CWCI President Alex Swedlow, General Counsel Ellen Sims Langille, and Claims & Medical Director Denise Niber discussed which drugs would be subject to prospective utilization review and which ones could be prescribed without prospective review. They also walked through the regulations to explain how the formulary is designed to function.

The analysis included a review of the transition period for those who are taking what will be called “non-exempt” drugs before the formulary is implemented.

The webinar also explained how the formulary will interact with the 30-day exemption for mandatory utilization review included in SB 1160 that takes effect at the start of 2018.
