A husband and wife team of insurance agents has been charged with defrauding clients who paid for workers' compensation coverage but were never actually covered, the Georgia Board of Workers' Compensation announced.
Robert Coleman, who is also a commissioner for Glynn County, and his wife, Sherry Elaine Coleman, were indicted on 15 felony counts of violating the state insurance code. The board said at least 10 people had been victimized by the couple's fraud.
"If any business owner has purchased workers’ compensation insurance through the Coleman Insurance Agency or if you are a general contractor that has received a certificate of insurance for workers’ compensation coverage from the Coleman agency in the past two years, you are asked to contact the State Board of Workers’ Compensation’s Enforcement Division at 404-657-7285 or 800-533-0682," the board said in a bulletin.
The indictments came after a year-long investigation conducted by the board's Enforcement Division. The Colemans' agency is in Brunswick, Georgia, south of Savannah.
