New Jersey lawmakers wasted little time in agreeing to Gov. Phil Murphy's conditional veto recommendations that a cost-of-living adjustment for public safety worker benefits apply only to death benefits.
After Murphy vetoed Senate Bill 1967 last month, the state Senate voted 33-1 to concur with the governor's recommendations. The General Assembly agreed Monday to the stipulation that the COLA be made only for benefits paid to dependents after firefighters or police officers, including volunteers, are killed on the job.
