One Call Care Management has finalized a contract with the maker of a wearable ultrasound device to treat acute and chronic muscle injuries, Connecticut's Fairfield County Business Journal reports.
The wearable equipment delivers ultrasonic waves up to 2 inches into the tissue to increase circulation, oxygen and nutrient delivery, and remove lactic acid, the article said.
One Call, the nation's largest workers' compensation third-party administrator, signed a contract with sam Sport's manufacturer ZetrOZ Systems in August. ZetrOZ exhibited the device at the Workers' Compensation Institute conference in Orlando, Florida, that month, according to a blog post on its website. The contract ensures One Call will "streamline the process for patients to get the sam Sport device," according to the post.
ZetrOZ markets sam Sport as good for treating tendinitis, shoulder and rotator cuff injuries, chronic back pain, knee and hamstring injuries, ankle sprains, groin pulls, plantar fasciitis and post-operative hip labrum tear recovery. It also markets the device as an alternate to opioids for treating chronic pain.
The device retails for around $4,400.
