The North Carolina Industrial Commission announced a $36 increase in the maximum weekly workers' compensation benefit, starting Jan. 1.
The maximum benefit climbed, from $992 for this year, to $1,028, in keeping with state law that stipulates the maximum is 110% of the average weekly wage, according to a bulletin from the commission.
The weekly wage and the maximum benefit level has increased every year since at least 1982, the first year shown on the commission's website. That year, the maximum was $228.
The smallest increase came during the Great Recession, 2010 to 2011, when the maximum increased, from $834, to $836.
