Company Cited Again for Failing to Protect Workers Against Lead Exposure

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration again has cited an Altoona company for overexposing workers to lead and failing to provide respiratory protection. The agency cited Amerway Inc. on July 1 for three repeat and four serious violations, and one other-than-serious violation. A March inspection found serious violations because Amerway failed to implement engineering, administrative and work practice controls to minimize lead exposure, institute a medical surveillance program and provide a medical evaluation to employees required to use tight-fitting respirators.
