Municipality Can Be Held Liable to Employee of Uninsured Contractor

The Appellate Court of Connecticut on Friday ruled that a municipal employer can be held liable to the employee of an uninsured contractor, just the same as any private employer would be. The case was Barker v. All Roofs by Dominic, No. AC 40535. In March 2000, the City of Bridgeport contracted with All Roofs by Dominic to repair the roof of the city’s transfer facility. All Roofs subcontracted the repair work to Howie’s Roofing. Howie’s Roofing hired Christopher Barker to do work on the project on a per diem basis.
