A privacy bill approved by the Senate Commerce Committee on 5/16 would stifle e-commerce and lead to more lawsuits and more confusion for consumers, the American Insurance Association (AIA) said last week.
"The legitimate e-commerce businesses being developed by insurers and others will be immediately placed at a competitive disadvantage if this legislation becomes law," said John Savercool, AIA vice president, federal affairs. "It will halt or significantly slow the flow on online insurance activity between businesses and consumers that has been increasing in recent years."
