When the North Carolina legislature directed the state Industrial Commission to study the implementation of a drug formulary, the order was limited to state employee claims only.
But the commission’s study was so “encouraging” that the commission is recommending a formulary for the entire workers’ compensation system.
The commission is continuing to study the benefits of a formulary and potential cost savings, and whether it also should implement medical treatment guidelines, as other states have done in connection with their formularies.
