New North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has amended his lawsuit against legislative leaders to challenge his predecessor’s appointment of his chief of staff’s wife to the state Industrial Commission.
The Democrat says Senate President Pro Tempore Philip E. Berger and House Speaker Timothy K. Moore, both Republicans, moved on the eve of Cooper’s assumption of office to curtail his executive powers in “significant” ways, the lawsuit states.
