The Texas House of Representatives gave preliminary approval Tuesday to eliminate the use of "voluntary networks" for treating workers' compensation claimants and to require such networks become certified by the Texas Department of Insurance by 2011.
Rep. Burt Solomons, R-Carrollton, delayed House Bill 473 for a week to prepare a "floor substitute" to the measure, which amends the Labor Code by specifying when payment outside of fee guidelines is permitted.
The bill was approved Tuesday on a nonrecord vote and is expected to be approved today on a final vote and sent the Senate.
