A bill has been pre-filed in the Virginia legislature that would declare post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by a first responder as an occupational disease, under certain circumstances.
House Bill 1706 was filed Thursday by Rep. Kaye Kory, D-Fairfax County. A committee referral is pending.
The bill would declare that PTSD in a first responder is an occupational disease suffered in the line of duty if, among other conditions, it is demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence to have resulted from documented exposure to a qualifying event in the course of employment.
