Workers' compensation benefit payments and costs declined relative to wages paid to employees covered by workers' compensation in 1999, according to a study by the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI). This marked the seventh consecutive year of declining benefits relative to covered wages and the sixth consecutive year that employer costs declined relative to those wages. These benefits and costs were for medical care and cash payments for workers with injuries or illnesses caused on the job.
