Insurance Group plc (NYSE: RSA), the parent of Royal & SunAlliance USA, yesterday
reported a first-quarter combined ratio of 99%, more than a five-point
improvement over its 2002 three-month combined ratio of 104.2%. The Group's
performance benefited from rate increases worldwide, strong underwriting
discipline and a low volume of weather-related claims in Europe during the
first three months of the year.
