The North Carolina Industrial Commission held a public meeting Friday to receive feedback on the opioid-prescribing guidelines it has been working on since last year.
The commission will accept written comments on the guidelines until March 19.
The rule would limit workers in acute pain to a five-day supply of opioids, with a daily dosage of no more than 50-milligram morphine equivalent doses (MED).
These workers could not receive fentanyl, benzodiazepines and the muscle relaxer carisoprodol.
Workers who just underwent surgery could be prescribed opioids for up to seven days.
