The Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee is currently evaluating a bill that would create a presumption of compensability for firefighters who contract various types of cancer and respiratory diseases.Senate Bill 211, introduced by Sen. Tory Rocca (R-Sterling Heights), would create a rebuttable presumption that a firefighter's cancer or respiratory condition is work-related. Because the presumption is rebuttable, an employer could invalidate the presumption by proving that a non-work-related cause led to the condition.
