BWC Investigations Lead to 8 Fraud Convictions in November

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's Special Investigations Department helped authorities obtain eight workers' compensation fraud convictions in November. Most of the convictions were for claimants who worked while receiving wage-replacement benefits. Ohio law requires claimants to notify their employer and the Bureau of Workers' Compensation when they resume work. Mark Owens, a claimant from Warren, Ohio, had worked as a general laborer for a staffing agency from January 2011 through March 2012, while receiving workers' compensation benefits.
