A group self-insurance fund for Georgia counties has issued a one-time dividend to policyholders totaling $5 million, according to local media reports.
Checks were presented to member counties of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia late last month, according to reports in the Walker County Messenger and the Baxley News-Banner.
ACCG Executive Director Ross King told the newspapers that 166 counties and local jurisdictions are covered by the association's Group Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Fund, which was established in 1982. Organizations participating in the program since 2014 were eligible, he said.
ACCG's Board of Trustees approved the "one-time special return" to members after eliminating one of its three money managers and handing the investment portfolio to the remaining two.
When selling the investments, the fund realized an "influx in realized gains," according to the News-Banner report. The board decided to distribute a portion of that to members.
