The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week ruled that a federal inmate who broke his back while doing his prison work assignment could sue the prison officials who were allegedly indifferent to his condition.
Although Stephen Koprowski received monetary compensation for his injury in accordance with the Inmate Accident Compensation Act, the court reasoned this statutory scheme does not preclude him from seeking damages for the violation of his constitutional rights during the course of his recovery from his injury.
