The Federal Advisory Board on Radiation and Worker Health last week added Cold War-era nuclear weapons workers at a Bethlehem Steel plant in New York to a special exposure cohort (SEC) established to make it easier for workers exposed to radiation to be compensated through the Energy Employees Occupational Compensation Program Act of 2000.Inclusion in the SEC spares former weapons plant workers and their survivors from undergoing an exhaustive process called "dose reconstruction" in order to receive benefits from the program.Workers who contracted one of 22 specified types of cancers while wor...
