House Bill, Like Senate's, Would Ease Cancer Presumption Requirements

A bill introduced in the Virginia House of Delegates, similar to one filed last month in the state Senate, would make it a little easier for firefighters to be compensated when diagnosed with cancer. House Bill 1804, sponsored by Del. Timothy Hugo, R-Centerville, would add colon, brain and testicular cancer to the list of cancers presumed to be caused by hazardous material encountered on the job. The bill also would remove the requirement that a firefighter had to show contact with a toxic substance known to cause certain types of cancer.
