The California Office of Administrative Law has decided that physicians who are not licensed in California may nevertheless conduct utilization review on treatment of California injured workers.
The California Medical Board and the California Medical Association had protested emergency regulations proposed by the Division of Workers' Compensation because they did not restrict utilization reviews to physicians with California medical licenses.
But the OAL approved the rule on Sept. 22 and took the unusual step of posting a statement by its director explaining the decision.
