In a press conference on Tuesday, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo said that the ruling in the Monterey Mushrooms case was a major step in ending abuse of the workers' compensation insurance system.
On Dec. 3, Monterey County Superior Court Judge Robert O'Farrell ordered Steven Thompson and Aster Kifle-Thompson to pay $480,000 for fraudulently billing the Monterey Mushrooms packing company for treatments provided to four employees.
