California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, for the second consecutive year, plans to reduce a number of the fees his department charges by about 6%.Poizner, a candidate for the Republic gubernatorial nomination, said the fee cut will take effect July 1 and will apply to hundreds of fees, the most common being those paid by agents, brokers and adjusters for their licenses. Next fiscal year, the cost of renewing a license will drop from $136 to $128, compared to a renewal fee of $144 when Poizner took office in January 2007.
