The California Division of Workers’ Compensation is drafting regulations and considering assessing penalties to ensure that utilization review organizations comply with the requirement to obtain accreditation.
As of Friday, 38 out of 63 UR firms that do business in the state had received accreditation from URAC, formerly known as the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission.
Senate Bill 1160 required companies that review requests for authorization of treatment to be accredited by July 1 and remain accredited for as long as they continue providing UR services in California....
