Bridge Worker's Fall On Co-Worker Prompts $189K in OSHA Fines

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division has issued a fine of $189,000 for nine safety violations — two of them willful — to a contractor working on the Ross Island Bridge in Portland. The citations, issued to Minnesota-based Abhe & Svoboda Inc., followed investigation of a Feb. 8 accident. During the incident, an employee working on an upper deck fell through a ladder opening, landing on an employee who was working on a platform 37 feet below.
