Tuesday, February 16, 2016 | 0

El Paso Community College has been awarded a $100,000 grant by Texas Mutual Insurance Co. to help pay for a new program that provides workplace safety courses to area companies, according to the El Paso Herald-Post newspaper.

The grant, which follows an earlier $100,000 grant awarded last October, will be used to fund a new risk management program that will offer workplace safety training courses to employers.

Some of the courses it plans to offer will focus on restaurant safety, home construction safety and compliance with U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration workplace safety regulations, according to the Herald-Post.

The courses will be offered free of charge and will start in four months. Texas Mutual has awarded similar grants to other community colleges in the state to help them provide free safety courses to employers, including College of the Mainland, Kilgore College, Midland College and Del Mar College.
