Increasing medical costs led to an uptick in the average ultimate total cost of California indemnity claims and total premiums continued to rebound after reaching a low point just after passage of the 2004 reforms, according to data released by the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau on Monday.The Rating Bureau's report on workers' comp carriers' performance for the quarter that ended on June 30 showed that the estimated ultimate medical cost per indemnity claim rose to $39,932 in 2009, up from $38,049 in 2008.Indemnity costs remained relatively flat, however, rising ...
