Six Michigan doctors have been charged as part of an investigation into a $464 million health care fraud scheme that involved more than 13 million unlawful opioid prescriptions, U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider’s office announced.
Among those charged in the 56-count grand jury indictment, returned on Tuesday, are Dr. Rajendra Bothra, 77, of Bloomfield Hills, who owned and operated a pain clinic in Warren. Bothra sought to bill insurance companies for the maximum number of services and procedures, with no regard to the patients’ needs, prosecutors allege.
