Legislation allowing Rhode Island police officers and firefighters to take accidental disability retirement because of an occupational illness will go into law without Gov. Gina Raimondo’s signature.
Raimondo did not sign or veto Senate Bill 896 and its companion measure, House Bill 5601. Under Rhode Island’s constitution, legislation passed by the General Assembly becomes law unless the governor vetoes the bill within six days if the legislature is in session or within 10 days after the legislature adjourns.
