Lawmakers Looking at Scaling Back Construction Industry Crackdown

Members of the Tennessee General Assembly are mapping strategies to scale back their planned crackdown on uninsured construction subcontractors and have held a series of meetings even before the new law takes effect, The Tennessean reported Sunday.The Nashville newspaper said a legislative committee has discussed ways to mitigate the impact of House Bill 1645, which removes the workers' compensation coverage exemption for construction company executives, partners and sole proprietors.Lawmakers passed the bill in April 2008, but it does not take effect until Jan. 1, 2010.State regulators an...
