After an investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, a Hillsboro doctor was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud and for overprescribing pain medications.
Timothy Manuel, 59, pleaded guilty last month to improperly prescribing large amounts of oxycodone to numerous patients, and to billing for workers' compensation services that were never provided, the state attorney general announced in a bulletin Thursday. The case was handled by the attorney general's special prosecutions unit.
Manuel was a physician at Hillsboro Urgent Care clinic. He was sentenced Thursday by Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Cross.
