Trenching Fatality Brings $103,600 in Penalties

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth announced the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) issued citations with $103,600 in proposed penalties against Maco Concrete of St. Clair Shores for allegedly failing to adequately protect employees from trenching and excavation hazards which resulted in a fatal accident. The department reported that on April 23 Maco Concrete owner Aldo Magnante was operating a backhoe and directing the excavation for a new sewer line in Addison Township.
